Hello! My name is Shad Gettman, and I am an MFT student therapist and graduate student at National University. I work with children, teens, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, family conflict, and other challenges that can make life feel overwhelming or leave you feeling stuck.
I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience where you feel heard, supported, and comfortable being yourself. My approach focuses on recognizing the strengths you already have while working together to better understand the challenges you are facing and find new ways forward. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you as we explore what meaningful change looks like for you.
My experience working with children and adolescents has shaped my interest in supporting young people and their families. Through my work in schools, I have had the opportunity to connect with kids and teens with different personalities, backgrounds, and needs. These experiences have reinforced the importance of meeting people where they are and creating an environment where they feel comfortable being themselves.
I am passionate about working with individuals who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, school/work, or relationships. I am dedicated to working with LGBTQ+ individuals and families and providing an affirming space where clients can explore their identity and experiences without judgment. When working with families, I hope to create a space where everyone can feel heard while building stronger relationships and healthier ways to navigate conflict.
I also enjoy working with couples who are looking to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, or work through difficult patterns together.
Starting therapy can be intimidating, especially if you are not sure what to expect. My goal is to make therapy feel comfortable, genuine, and collaborative. Whether you are coming to therapy for yourself, your child, your relationship, or your family, we will work together to build on your strengths, better understand the challenges you are facing, and move toward the changes that matter most to you.
