For the longest time, I could never understand how mediation was something that would actually help me. Why sit and deep breathe? What does that do?
Ever since becoming a student therapist, I have a newfound respect for meditation and breathwork.
I have the Peloton Bike at home, along with the monthly subscription to all of the classes they offer. One of the subgroups they offer is meditation. Just recently, I started doing one meditation a day. I cannot tell you how rewarding it has been to be able to sit for five or ten minutes (because that is all it takes) and just focus on the life I am breathing in and out.
With all of my clients, I have a strong focus on breathwork and creative techniques to get them more in touch with the present moment. I do give a disclaimer that it will be hard. However, if you really want to make a change, give yourself that five or ten minutes a day. You can always work up, but for now, keep it simple enough so you can feel accomplished when you complete it.
There are many guided meditations on YouTube that cater to any topic: happiness, peace, energy, kindness, even sleep! Start with one a day and really let your whole body feel each breath you take. Give it a week. You can do this!
