McCartney is a practicum-level clinical mental health counseling student at Northwestern University. With a strong emphasis on growth, wellness, empowerment, and autonomy, McCartney is committed to supporting clients who experience mental health concerns and seek professional assistance. Upon graduation, McCartney aspires to work with children, adolescents, and families, helping them achieve their goals through appropriate diagnosis, assessments, and various evidence-based counseling practices.
McCartney aims to specialize in play therapy, focusing on at-risk children and adolescents with a history of trauma and adverse childhood experiences. The goal is to assist them in increasing emotional regulation and resilience while addressing their trauma. McCartney feels prepared for this challenge due to the accreditation of her master's program by CACREP, membership in the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and completion of 6 continuing education credits on various aspects of counseling.
At her current practicum level, McCartney is approved to work with individual adults with mild mental health concerns. Starting in the summer of 2025, McCartney will be permitted to work with groups, and in the winter of 2026, she will be able to work with children and adolescents.
